PROVINCE PROCLAIMS INTERNATIONAL DAY OF DISABLED PERSONS

The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed December 3 the International Day of Disabled Persons. This coincides with proclamations by the United Nations (UN) and governments around the world aimed at building awareness and understanding of the issues affecting people with disabilities.

"One of the responsibilities of the newly created Ministry of Social Services is to co-ordinate, develop, promote and implement social, economic and other policies and programs for the benefit of persons with disabilities in Saskatchewan," Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer said. "The UN's International Day of Disabled Persons helps celebrate and acknowledge the experience and capabilities of people with disabilities, and we are pleased to officially proclaim the day in Saskatchewan."

The theme of this year's international day is "decent work for persons with disabilities."

"Saskatchewan is enjoying prosperous times, and we want to secure the future for people with disabilities, and all the people of our province," Harpauer said.
