News Release - March 16, 2007 CRIME REDUCTION STRATEGY ANNOUNCED FOR LA RONGECitizens of La Ronge will have a safer community in which to live thanks to a new crime reduction strategy announced today. The La Ronge Crime Reduction Strategy was developed in response to concerns expressed by community leaders about high rates of property and violent crime. “Keeping communities safe is a top priority of this government,” Justice Minister Frank Quennell said. “This new strategy for La Ronge is a home-grown solution that will reduce property and violence-related offences.” “This strategy is a big step in the right direction for La Ronge and surrounding communities,” Corrections and Public Safety Minister Warren McCall said. “This strategy will make a positive impact on the lives of both citizens and offenders in these communities.” Since July of 2005, the Departments of Justice and Corrections and Public Safety have been meeting with community partners from La Ronge to develop this multi-layered, community-centred approach to deal with property and violent crime. The strategy will build upon existing community and justice related resources such as mental health services, employment programs, education, recreation, substance abuse treatment programs, corrections-based interventions and law enforcement. -30- For more information, contact: Andrew Dinsmore |
