News Release - February 26, 2009 $200,000 FOR SOURCE WATER PROTECTION GROUPSEight non-profit groups are receiving funding to further protect the province's water resources. These agencies keep Saskatchewan's watersheds and water bodies healthy and viable. This ensures Saskatchewan residents can use water for drinking, recreation, economic and agricultural purposes. Each of the non-profit groups will receive $25,000 for a total of $200,000. This funding will encourage active involvement by communities in the implementation of source water protection plans. These plans were developed by local residents and carried out by the following funding recipients:
Funding recipients also include the First Nations Agricultural Council of Saskatchewan Inc. and the Swift Current Creek Watershed Stewards Inc. "Water is a valuable resource that is essential for the future of our health, economy and environment," Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority Nancy Heppner said. "These funds will assist local organizations in their efforts to protect Saskatchewan's water sources."
