News Release - September 12, 2000 LA RONGE AIRPORT LIGHTS UP
The lighting system at the La Ronge Airport is about to be upgraded to improve
safety at this northern airport. The improved lighting system will enhance visibility on the runways and aprons through the upgrading and installation of floodlights, lighting control systems and an edge light system. "To ensure the safety of aircraft using the La Ronge Airport, it was necessary to make extensive improvements," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. This $700,000 project, which is administered by Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation and funded by Transport Canada under the Airport Capital Assistance Program, is anticipated to begin shortly and should be completed by the end of November. Completion of this job will require an estimated 10 full- time workers. Janus Projects Ltd. was awarded the lighting rehabilitation project as the lowest of five bidders. In addition to the lighting project, the airport will also be resurfaced under a separate contract. The resurfacing will be completed by late summer of 2001 at a cost of approximately $4 million. -30- For more information, contact Rock Gorlick, Director Engineering Projects Saskatoon Phone: (306) 933-5225 (cell) 306-227-8013 |
