PROVINCE CELEBRATES FOSTER FAMILIES WEEK

Saskatchewan is recognizing the dedication and commitment of foster families during Foster Families Week from October 19-25.

"I commend those families who open their homes and their hearts to welcome in foster children," Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer said. "This week we recognize and celebrate the incredible gift foster parents provide - their love and the basic comforts of home."

"Safety, security, love and a healthy environment are key ingredients to a happy childhood," Saskatchewan Foster Families Association (SFFA) president Tracie Gilchrist said. "We are proud to support the families who provide a home and care for Saskatchewan children and youth through fostering. And this week in particular, we want to say thank you."

The SFFA is a community-based organization that encourages, assists and promotes the need for foster families. The association will join Minister Harpauer at an event to kick off Foster Families Week tonight in Saskatoon. The event will include presentations of appreciation certificates to foster families, and the annual Montgomery Award for Excellence in Fostering.
