News Release - May 19, 2010 MARCH WHOLESALE TRADE BEST IN CANADASaskatchewan's economy leads the way once again according to a report released by Statistics Canada today. Wholesale trade statistics for March were released today and show that Saskatchewan was up 20.9 per cent March 2010 over March 2009 - the best percentage increase in Canada and more than double the 10.3 per cent recorded on a national basis (seasonally adjusted). "The rise in wholesale trade numbers signals there is an increasing demand for goods from both consumers and business," Enterprise Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. "The improved wholesale numbers mean a growing economy - and that is good news for all of us." Saskatchewan also had an increase in wholesale trade of 3.7 per cent between February and March 2010, third highest percentage increase among the provinces. Nationally, wholesale trade was up 1.4 per cent over the same period. "We have been tracking a number of major indicators, and today's improvement for wholesale trade is a reminder that we can expect better things to come in the upcoming months," Cheveldayoff said. -30- For more information, contact:
