BIODIESEL INFORMATION EVENING TO BE HELD IN HUMBOLDT

Opportunities for biodiesel development in northeast Saskatchewan will be discussed at an information evening in Humboldt, March 23rd.

"Biodiesel production is just one of the ways Saskatchewan can capitalize on its natural advantages," Deputy Premier and Regional Economic and Co-operative Development Minister Clay Serby said. "Developing this industry can benefit our rural economy through value-added activity and spin-off jobs in surrounding service sectors."

Biodiesel Provincial Task Force co-chairperson Judie Dyck will be the guest speaker at Biodiesel Basics, and will address the opportunities, challenges and importance of biodiesel production in Saskatchewan.

The information evening is aimed at municipal leaders, agricultural producers, grain processing and handling representatives, economic developers, business organizations and individuals interested in biodiesel.

The Carlton Trail Regional Economic Development Authority (REDA) and the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce are sponsors for the event.

"It is very important that producers, community leaders and other stakeholders gain a better understanding of the biodiesel industry on a provincial and global basis," Carlton Trail REDA Economic Development Officer Edie Spagrud said. "We have a lot to learn about the risks, implications and opportunities in the area of value-added processing and biodiesel in particular. Education is very important at this stage."

Advanced registration is required for the event by March 20th. For more information on Biodiesel Basics, call (306) 682-2631.
