News Release - May 6, 2004 ASSEMBLY DEBATES HIGH GAS PRICES
The Government of Saskatchewan today put forward a motion for an emergency debate on the rising pump price of gasoline.
Members of the Legislature noted that the current ad valorem GST regime will result in massive revenues for the federal government as a result of recent increases in pump prices. "It is my view that this revenue should be directed to providing relief to consumers during times when crude-oil prices are unusually high," Minister Responsible for Consumer Affairs Frank Quennell said. Quennell has also written to Federal, Provincial and Territorial Ministers Responsible for Consumer Affairs, inviting them to Saskatchewan for an urgent meeting on the issue. The date and location of the meeting has not been set. Further details will be provided at a later date. -30- For More Information, Contact:
