PREMIER WALL OFFERS CONDOLENCES ON PASSING OF DAVEY STEUART

Premier Brad Wall today offered his condolences on the passing of former Liberal Leader Davey Steuart. Steuart died Friday in Kelowna at the age of 94.

"Davey Steuart was a man who believed in public service," Wall said. "During his long political career, he served the people of Saskatchewan in many different capacities over the course of five decades."

Steuart was Mayor of Prince Albert and President of the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) before being elected to the Legislative Assembly. He held several major cabinet portfolios including Health, Finance and Deputy Premier in the government of Premier Ross Thatcher. Steuart later became Liberal Leader and Leader of the Opposition before being appointed to the Senate.

"Saskatchewan was well served by Davey Steuart's dedication to our province," Wall said. "On behalf of all the people of Saskatchewan, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to Davey Steuart's family, and also our thanks for his long and remarkable life."

The flags at the Saskatchewan Legislature will fly at half staff until Steuart's funeral.
