News Release - March 11, 2005 PROVINCE TO IMPROVE HIGHWAY 11 INTERSECTION AT ROSTHERN
A tender has been awarded and work is underway for improvements to the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 312 at Rosthern.
"This construction project is part of our commitment to improving Saskatchewan's transportation network," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. The goal of the project is to improve the safety of Highway 11 in the vicinity of Rosthern. It is valued at $3.5 million and will employ a total of 46 full-time workers. This includes intersection improvements on Highway 11, the realignment of Highway 312, and construction of service roads adjacent to Highway 11 which will provide access to the community and the surrounding area via Highway 312 and the South Access to Rosthern. "The improvements will enhance traffic safety at a major intersection on one of the province's primary highways," Sonntag said. "Transportation is an enabler for economic development at both the regional and national levels, and these improvements demonstrate once again that this is a priority for the Government of Saskatchewan. We are working to enhance the sustainability of our provincial transportation network and ensure that it meets the unique challenges we face in the 21st century." G.W. Construction of Buchanan was awarded the contract for this project. Gravel crushing and hauling in preparation for construction is currently ongoing and is scheduled to be completed by the end of March. Road work is expected to begin in May, and should be completed by October. Due to construction, users of Highway 11 can expect some delays and disruption to travelling schedules. To minimize this, on-road work on Highway 11 will be suspended on a weekly basis from 3 p.m. Friday to dawn the following Monday. In addition, work on Highway 11 will be temporarily discontinued from 3 p.m. on June 30th to dawn on July 4th to accommodate increased traffic on the Canada Day weekend. During these periods work may still continue on the services roads and Highway 312. Residents in the immediate vicinity may also be temporarily inconvenienced by noise and dust at various times during construction.
