News Release - May 6, 2011 NEW WATER TREATMENT PLANT BRINGS VONDA INTO THE 21ST CENTURYThe Town of Vonda is celebrating more than just the grand opening of their new water treatment plant; they are celebrating their part in the Saskatchewan Advantage. Representatives from all three levels of government will attend the May 7, 2011 ribbon cutting for the new water treatment plant supported by the Building Canada Fund and Saskatchewan Infrastructure Growth Initiative. "This is about more than just a water treatment plant," Municipal Affairs Minister Darryl Hickie said. "Projects like this improve quality of life and allow for Saskatchewan communities to contribute to the Saskatchewan Advantage. Our province is seeing tremendous growth in population and this project allows for the Town of Vonda to participate in and support that growth." The project includes a total $1,870,000 investment with the provincial, federal and municipal governments each contributing $623,333. The Saskatchewan Infrastructure Growth Initiative is also providing interest rate subsidies on $530,000 of the municipal government's borrowing for the project. More than $35,000 was also provided through the Municipal Economic Enhancement Program and as of December 2009 more than $76,000 of federal Gas Tax funding has also gone into the project. The project consists of upgrades to the water treatment plant, including a reverse osmosis system, construction of a water storage reservoir, distribution pumps, building, generator, controls, electrical and mechanical upgrades and associated works. "The Town of Vonda has moved from 1970's technology into the 21st century with this long overdue expansion and upgrade of our water treatment facility," Town of Vonda Mayor Dan Sembalerus said. "We can now not only sustain our community for the long-term but also have the ability to grow and expand our town with this new service. This is a shining example of all three levels of government working together and committing resources to a project that has had an immediate improvement to the quality of life for our residents." The end result has been outstanding and is a complete success according to those working on the project. With Saskatchewan experiencing unprecedented economic growth, the Town of Vonda is now able to take part and benefit from the economic activities taking place around it. -30- For more information, contact:
