IMPROVING HIGHWAYS 16 AND 21 NEAR LLOYDMINSTER

A tender has been awarded for resurfacing 8.32 km of Highway 16 west of Marshall, resurfacing 0.6 km of Highway 21 south of its Junction with Highway 16 and for production and stockpiling of aggregate.

"Roadwork on this project is expected to begin in June, and will be completed by mid July," Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "Twenty-four full-time workers will be employed on this $1.8 million project."

Resurfacing will take place on 8.32 km of Highway 16 from Marshall west, and on 0.6 km of Highway 21, 12.26 km south of its Junction with Highway 16. Anderson Rental and Paving Ltd. of Saskatoon was awarded the contract.

"Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation is committed to building better highways in Saskatchewan," said Wartman. "Highway 16 has seen an increase in truck traffic, leading to wear and tear on these sections. This project links with our vision of a safe, modern and efficient transportation system that supports economic growth and social well-being across our province."

The government has committed $293 million to building better highways in 2002-2003. More than 700 km of highways will be reconstructed and paved this year.
