Four new research projects at the University of Regina will receive more than $500,000 through the Innovation and Science Fund.

"This level of funding provides opportunities for our universities to showcase our knowledge, innovation and commitment to excellence," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "We are making great strides in building a province that is known as a leader in research, not just here at home but around the world."

The Innovation and Science Fund will provide:

  • $52,327 to purchase equipment for the Development of Energy Efficient Technologies for Mitigating Greenhouse Gas Emissions;
  • $144,000 to develop a Meso-scale Oedometer Test System, which will help scientists understand and improve the engineering behaviour of soils and rocks in the evolving climate;
  • $137,400 to purchase equipment for the Centre for Irrigation Water Protection and Microbial Ecology of Foods; and
  • $200,000 to establish a Canada Research Chair Position in Microbes, The Environment and Food Safety.

The Innovation and Science Fund supports research at Saskatchewan's universities, colleges and research institutes on projects receiving approval and funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the Canada Research Chairs Program and the Canadian Institutes for Health Research.
