SASKATCHEWAN CONTINUES TO LEAD THE COUNTRY IN WAGE GROWTH

For the second month in a row, Saskatchewan wage-earners have experienced the largest year-over-year earnings jump in Canada. Saskatchewan's average weekly earnings increased by 5.7 per cent in November 2010, tied with Prince Edward Island for top spot, and exceeding the national average of 4.4 per cent.

Saskatchewan's average weekly earnings were $862.83, the third highest in Canada after Alberta ($1,016.27), and Ontario ($891.42). Nationally, the average was $865.17.

"Saskatchewan workers continue to benefit from an economy that is creating high quality, higher paying jobs ," Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris said. "With forecasters expecting strong economic growth in 2011 and beyond, there is reason to be optimistic that our workers will continue to find great opportunities right here at home."

Norris also noted that Saskatchewan's earnings growth for November (5.7 per cent) exceeded annual inflation for the same month (2.0 per cent) resulting in "real earnings" growth of 3.7 per cent.

"With growing employment, growing wages and a growing population, more people than ever are realizing that Saskatchewan is the place to be for workers and their families," Norris said. "With more than 7,200 jobs listed today on www.saskjobs.ca, opportunities are available in every corner of the province."
