News Release - May 23, 2008 WINNERS OF HERITAGE POSTER CONTEST ANNOUNCEDLieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Dr. Gordon L. Barnhart and Municipal Affairs Minister Bill Hutchinson on behalf of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Christine Tell, honoured five Saskatchewan students at the Legislative Building today during the fifth annual Heritage Poster Contest for Saskatchewan Students awards ceremony. "Historic buildings and places provide tangible evidence of how the past, the present and the future are related," Barnhart said. "The Heritage Poster Contest is an opportunity for youth to discover, reflect and discuss the importance of heritage in our day-to-day lives." This year's award recipients are: Primary Category - Shanae Lingelbach, Balcarres Community School "Historic places are the heart and soul of our province and contribute to the cultural and economic sustainability of our communities," Hutchinson said. "These youth captured the beauty and character of a great province and learned how a building from the past can help build our future." Over 224 students in Grades 1 through 12 from communities across the province submitted a hand-crafted poster featuring a historic place in Saskatchewan with a written statement telling why the place is significant to them.
