HONOURING SASKATCHEWAN'S PROTECTIVE SERVICE PERSONNEL

Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock presented the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal to 18 recipients at St. Mary's Parish Ukrainian Catholic Cultural Centre in Yorkton today. The medal recognizes individuals who have 25 cumulative years of exemplary service protecting the people of Saskatchewan or their property. This can be in either a volunteer or a full-time capacity.

Recipients of the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal at the ceremony today include:

- RCMP members from Yorkton, Kelvington, Foam Lake, Canora and Melville; and
- fire protection personnel from Melville, Wynyard, and Yorkton.

"The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal allows us to honour the courageous men and women who make our lives more safe and secure in Saskatchewan," Corrections and Public Safety Minister Peter Prebble said on behalf of Provincial Secretary Joan Beatty.

The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal was announced by Premier Lorne Calvert in 2002. The medal is part of the Saskatchewan Honours Program that includes the Saskatchewan Order of Merit and the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. The provincial Office of Protocol and Honours administers the program in close co-operation with the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, Saskatchewan Firefighters Association and other agencies whose personnel are eligible for the honour.
