News Release - February 27, 2007 SETTLEMENT REACHED IN CARRIERE LITIGATIONThe Government of Saskatchewan has agreed to settle Murdoch Carriere’s litigation out of court, for the sum of $275,000. In addition, Mr. Carriere is permitted to pay arrears of pension contributions to his plan. “The provincial government and Saskatchewan Environment take the responsibility to provide a safe, harassment free workplace for our employees seriously,” Environment Minister John Nilson said. “We hope this settlement brings closure to this matter for the employees, as well as for the government and other parties.” The Public Service Commission (PSC) Human Resource Manual contains the government’s Anti-Harassment Policy, which lays out the steps that are to be taken once a harassment complaint is made. This has been distributed to all departments, along with a checklist for managers and a brochure for employees, and is available on the PSC’s website (www.psc.gov.sk.ca). This policy was revised and strengthened in 2003. -30- For more information, contact: Art Jones |
