GOVERNMENT HOUSE RECEIVES 1,000 TULIPS FROM THE NETHERLANDS

Thanks to a generous gift from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, 1,000 Triumph tulip bulbs named Orange Cassini will be planted in the Netherlands Memorial Garden and Edwardian Gardens at Government House this fall.

In May 2009, His Excellency Wilhelmus Geerts, Ambassador of the Netherlands, visited Saskatchewan and met with Lieutenant Governor Dr. Gordon L. Barnhart. During their meeting the Lieutenant Governor explained that the grounds and gardens at Government House were being revitalized and the Ambassador graciously offered 1,000 tulip bulbs. The tulips were gifted to the people of Saskatchewan in recognition of the Edwardian Gardens rehabilitation project at Government House.

"Government House is truly a Saskatchewan treasure that provides a snap shot of our rich history," Provincial Secretary June Draude said. "This gift will not only contribute to the beauty of the gardens for all to enjoy, but will also serve as a reminder of how important international relations are to our province and country."

An opportunity to view the new tulips in the Edwardian Gardens at Government House will bloom in spring 2010.
