INVESTING IN WATER CONTROL INFRASTRUCTURE

The province is planning major rehabilitation work on water control structures at Katepwa Lake and Lac La Ronge as part of a $2.85 million investment in water management infrastructure in Saskatchewan.

"Saskatchewan's people and Saskatchewan's green and prosperous economy depend on the effective management of our water resources," Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Watershed Authority David Forbes said. "This investment will ensure that we can continue to manage water in this province to the benefit of all citizens."

In addition to the work at Katepwa Lake and Lac La Ronge, the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority will be upgrading the pump station at Pike Lake and will complete rehabilitation projects at Avonlea, Cowan Lake and Hugonard dams. Planning and investigation work for the development of future rehabilitation of the Upper Qu'Appelle Conveyance between Lake Diefenbaker and Buffalo Pound Lake will include public consultations later this year. There will also be further project design work and works upgrading at another ten dams.

The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority maintains and operates provincial water control structures, including 45 dams and 130 kilometres of conveyance channels.
