2009 COUNCIL OF THE FEDERATION LITERACY AWARD RECIPIENT NAMED

Dr. Margaret Lipp is the recipient of the 2009 Council of the Federation (COF) Literacy Award. The award, presented annually in each province and territory across Canada, recognizes outstanding achievements and excellence in literacy.

"Since 2005, the Premiers' Council of the Federation Literacy Award has recognized individuals for their outstanding achievements, innovative practices and excellence in literacy," Deputy Premier and Education Minister Ken Krawetz said, on behalf of Premier Brad Wall. "I wish to congratulate the 2009 COF Literacy Award recipient, Dr. Margaret Lipp, for her contributions to the advancement of adult literacy and learning in Saskatchewan."

Dr. Lipp is an accomplished Saskatchewan educator, administrator and literacy advocate whose career in education has spanned nearly four decades. Acknowledged for her leadership in curriculum innovation, Dr. Lipp has made a positive and enduring contribution to the advancement of school based literacy education in Saskatchewan. In 2005, Dr. Lipp was appointed Literacy Commissioner, and under her leadership, new initiatives to expand family, workplace and community literacy were introduced.

The COF Literacy Award recognizes the valuable contributions made by Canadians in the field of literacy, including family, Aboriginal, health, workplace and community literacy. Each award recipient receives a certificate as well as a Council of the Federation Literacy Award medallion.
