SPRING ROAD BANS NOW IN EFFECT

Saskatchewan Highways & Transportation wishes to advise truckers, farmers and any drivers carrying heavy loads about the spring road bans that are now in effect in some areas of the province.

"In springtime, Saskatchewan's network of thin membrane surface (TMS) highways are vulnerable to soft spots and surface cracks," Highways & Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "I would encourage drivers that may be affected by spring road bans to check with the highway hotline or the Department of Highways & Transportation website for information on road bans in their area."

Prior to the construction season, spring road bans help minimize damage on Saskatchewan's network of TMS highways. These restrictions do not apply to highways with structural pavements. Generally, restrictions are in effect for a six-week period. In addition, municipalities may institute road bans on selected municipal roads.
