MINISTER PROMOTES SASKATCHEWAN ENERGY AND INVESTMENT IN WASHINGTON AND NEW YORK

Industry and Resources Minister Maynard Sonntag leaves today on a four-day investment mission to promote Saskatchewan's leadership in oil and gas, uranium, and energy research to political and business leaders in Washington, D.C., and New York City.

"As Canada's second largest producer of oil and the world's largest producer of uranium, we have tremendous energy reserves to market to a country seeking to establish a long-term, stable and secure energy supply," Sonntag said. "The U.S. is also interested in our world-leading energy research, from carbon dioxide capture and storage to hybrid hydrogen-gasoline vehicles."

Sonntag will be speaking at several events in Washington and New York. On Tuesday, June 19, U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) will host a seminar on Capitol Hill on Saskatchewan energy, featuring several speakers including Minister Sonntag. An audience of about 75 is expected, including senior federal politicians and energy officials, as well as energy and investment company executives. On Wednesday, June 20, Sonntag will deliver a presentation to senior policy advisors and energy analysts at the Washington-based Centre for Strategic International Studies.

During his two days in Washington, Minister Sonntag will be accompanied by executives from Cameco Corp. and AREVA Canada Inc., as well as the Canadian Light Source synchrotron.

In New York, on June 21, he will also promote investment in Saskatchewan energy at a seminar attended by about 30 banking and investment firm executives.

During his trip, Sonntag is also scheduled to give interviews to top American media including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes Magazine, and Bloomberg News. In addition, on June 22, he will address a group of foreign business journalists primarily from Europe and Asia. He will also meet with Canadian embassy officials and American business organizations during the trip.

"When we announced the second year of Innovative by Nature in April, we committed to promoting Saskatchewan's unprecedented economic growth, strong business climate and world-leading technologies to our most important market - the U.S.," Sonntag said. "This mission is part of our commitment to making sure investors outside our borders know that Saskatchewan is a great place to live, work and do business."
