News Release - September 1, 2000 NEW DAY CARE LEGISLATION TAKES EFFECT
New legislation aimed at making day care more accessible in northern and rural
areas goes into effect today. As of today, amendments to The Child Care Act allow individual licensed child care providers to operate a child care home in a residence other than their primary residence. Further amendments allow a family child care provider to be licensed to care for up to 12 children in a Group Family Child Care Home as long as a second adult is present. The number of children permitted in unlicensed family child care homes remains at eight. "Parents and child care providers in northern and rural areas face unique circumstances, like seasonal demands for child care during harvest," Social Services Minister Harry Van Mulligen said. "These amendments allow people in these areas of the province to develop child care programs that address these needs." - 30 - For more information contact: Doug Wakabayashi Social Services Regina Phone: (306) 787-8689 |
