SASKATCHEWAN YOUTH ASKED TO \"TOP THIS\"

A new contest is inviting Saskatchewan young people to discover and document the province's many accomplishments and world firsts.

Top This was launched today by Industry and Resources Minister Eric Cline as part of the Our Future is Wide Open campaign. Top This is designed for youth aged eight to 21 to discover that there is no limit to where the province comes out on top and that young people can accomplish great things right here in Saskatchewan. Top This challenges young people to submit Saskatchewan firsts and feats for a chance to win savings bonds and other prizes.

"Whether it's winning the World Junior Curling Championships or inventing canola, Saskatchewan has a long list of accomplishments," Cline said. "We want to show Saskatchewan's young people that they can reach their goals without leaving the province and that the government is committed to creating opportunities for them to expand their horizons and test their limits."

Top This invites participants to submit original stories, essays, photographs or illustrations depicting Saskatchewan accomplishments. Categories include science and technology, education, health, arts and culture, sports, entrepreneurship, agriculture, and public policy.

Three winning entries, representing three age categories, will each be awarded a $2,000 Saskatchewan savings bond. Participants will also be eligible for weekly draws of merchandise.

To promote the campaign, contest guidelines, along with a poster that features the Saskatchewan 2003 world junior curling champions, will be distributed to schools throughout the province. Newspaper advertisements will showcase talented young people and their accomplishments.

For more information, people can call 1-866-SASK-HAS or log on to www.topthiscontest.ca. The deadline for contest entries is June 20th, 2003.
