News Release - May 12, 2003 ASSINIBOIA CAMPUS FINDS A PERMANENT HOME
The Assiniboia Campus of Southeast Regional College will soon have a new facility after a $55,000 investment from the government of Saskatchewan.
Work will start soon on improvements to the Prince of Wales Cultural and Recreational Complex in Assiniboia providing community residents with updated facilities to pursue their post-secondary training. Renovations should be completed by August and the campus will occupy approximately 1700 square feet on the second floor. "Upgrading our schools is an investment in Saskatchewan's future," Learning Minister Judy Junor said. "This project will provide stability to the Regional College and its programs and help create a vibrant educational centre for the Town of Assiniboia and surrounding area." The college has been operating out of a temporary space in the Prince of Wales facility since last year when a major roof leak forced staff and students to vacate their previous location. The Prince of Wales Cultural and Recreational Complex is a multi-use community centre that houses a theatre, gymnasium/meeting hall, curling rink, and the Southeast Regional Library. The community has actively supported the addition of the Assiniboia Campus to this facility, viewing it as an important step in addressing the cultural, recreational, and educational needs of the town and the surrounding area. Since 1973, Saskatchewan's Regional Colleges have ensured that residents in rural and northern areas have access to post-secondary education and training. "This project is part of our government's ongoing commitment to invest in modern, well-equipped learning facilities that will provide Saskatchewan students with a future that is wide open to opportunities to live and work in Saskatchewan," Junor said. -30- For More Information, Contact:
