CELEBRATING EDUCATION WEEK IN SASKATCHEWAN

Education Week 2004 was launched today at Balfour Collegiate by focusing on career development and exploration opportunities for high school students in Saskatchewan. Regina Walsh Acres MLA Sandra Morin, on behalf of Learning Minister Andrew Thomson, participated in the kick-off of Education Week.

Regina high school students also heard from guest speaker Erwin Klempner, a Work Experience Program teacher at Balfour; Erica Schmidt, a Balfour student and Gary Niesner, an employer from Partners in Motion.

"Our schools, our communities and the Government of Saskatchewan are working together to ensure that our young people have the career development and exploration experiences they need to make informed choices about their future," Morin said.

Education Week 2004 is being celebrated October 17th – 23rd with various public activities in Saskatchewan educational institutions that demonstrate the quality of Saskatchewan's public education system. This year's theme is Celebrate…Success…Growth…Learning.

"Investing in education is one of the best ways to ensure the future of our province," Morin said. "Education and training at Saskatchewan K-12 schools and post-secondary institutions helps students achieve and leads to student success and the success of our province. Education Week is a perfect time to celebrate Saskatchewan's learning opportunities and accomplishments."
