ENTERPRISE SASKATCHEWAN BOARD RELEASES PROGRESS REPORT

The Board of Enterprise Saskatchewan, the agency representing the province's new approach to stimulating increased economic growth and development, released its progress report today detailing its efforts and key accomplishments of its first year of operation.

The report covers the period ending March 31, 2009. The recommendations to government described within the report - along with the government responses - are categorized under the priorities of Tax Competitiveness, Regulatory Streamlining, Labour Market Development, Infrastructure/Utilities, Access to Capital, and Resource Value-Added Development and Diversification.

"Enterprise Saskatchewan's goal is a simple one - to work toward an environment for sustainable economic growth and prosperity for all Saskatchewan people," Enterprise Saskatchewan Board of Directors Deputy Chair Gavin Semple said. "We have been pursuing that goal with diligence and determination and pursuing it in very close partnership with the provincial government and the many, many stakeholders who have an interest in the continued success of our province."

"The work of this agency regarding removal of barriers to growth, identifying opportunity through innovation and partnership, and pushing the competitive envelope would be beneficial at any time, but especially in our current global economic climate," Enterprise Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. "Through its efforts, Enterprise Saskatchewan is going to leave a lasting legacy on this province. The planning, the vision, and the work described in the pages of this report are just the beginnings of that legacy."

With 18 sector teams and three strategic issues councils now in place and underway, Enterprise Saskatchewan will continue to make informed, collaborative recommendations to the government on the direction of Saskatchewan's future economic growth. Future reports will be made public as part of the agency's commitment to clearly identified, measurable objectives and the board's deliberations and analysis related to them.
