SASKATCHEWAN CELEBRATES OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC SUCCESS

Announces Further Details for Legacy Fund

The Government of Saskatchewan today thanked everyone involved in the Olympic and Paralympic pavilions.

"To the pavilion team, the staff, the entertainers, the volunteers, the corporate and city partners - to everyone involved - I want to say a heartfelt thank you," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Dustin Duncan said. "We did a fantastic job of showcasing Saskatchewan to the world and I am proud this event will leave a lasting legacy right here in Saskatchewan."

Half of the money raised through corporate and city partnerships will go to the Saskatchewan 2010 Legacy Fund. That means more than $400,000 will go toward supporting amateur sport, culture and recreation programs across the province - specifically Creative Kids, KidSport, Future Best and Take the Lead. It is estimated nearly 1,000 children will benefit from the Legacy Fund contribution to these four initiatives over the next two years.

"Saskatchewan athletes did an incredible job, bringing home 11 Olympic medals and two Paralympic medals," Duncan said. "Now the very children who were inspired by the athletes at the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will have more opportunities to participate and one day fulfill their own dreams."

Saskatchewan's presence at the Olympics will also continue to be felt here at home as a number of items used in the pavilions returned to Saskatchewan for further use, including kiosks, visuals, marketing materials, laptop computers and the popular green screen.
