News Release - March 17, 2008 NEW CAR SALES AND MANUFACTURING NUMBERS OFF TO A GOOD START IN 2008New numbers for motor vehicle sales and manufacturing shipments for January are out today, and re-affirm Saskatchewan's economic strength for the year ahead. "We are closely watching many of the economic indicators, and the statistics released today confirm the good news - Saskatchewan's economy is on a roll in 2008," Enterprise and Innovation Minister Lyle Stewart said. "Saskatchewan's manufacturing shipments continue to track well in spite of difficulties on the national front." New motor vehicle sales for January 2008 also experienced an increase from January 2007, posting a 21.3 per cent increase, the third highest increase in Canada. In the Statistics Canada report today there were 2,958 vehicles sold in January 2008. "The consumer confidence level in the province is one of the best in Canada at the moment," Stewart said.
