VICTIMS OF CRIME AWARENESS WEEK

April 26 to May 2 has been declared Victims of Crime Awareness Week in Saskatchewan, to coincide with National Victims of Crime Awareness Week. This year's theme is "Supporting, Connecting, Evolving."

"This week is an opportunity to raise awareness about victim services and about the programs, services and legislation in place to help victims and their families in Saskatchewan," Justice Minister and Attorney General Don Morgan said. "The staff and volunteers working in Victims Services programs across our province provide support to victims throughout the criminal justice process."

Throughout the program's evolution, dedicated volunteers have given of their time and energy. They have connected with victims in their communities, and provide the link that connects victims to other agencies for help.

Our network of police-based Victim Services Programs is available to about 87 per cent of Saskatchewan's population. This includes the area served as a result of the recent expansion to Spiritwood.

During Victims of Crime Awareness Week, all Victims Services volunteers will be recognized. Morgan will host a luncheon at the Legislative Building in honour of a number of long-term volunteers.

For information about National Victims of Crime Awareness Week, services available for victims or volunteer opportunities, please contact your local Victims Services program.
