News Release - April 20, 2006 UPGRADING EIGHT SWIFT CURRENT AREA SCHOOLS
The Government of Saskatchewan is investing approximately $1.2 million to improve eight schools in Swift Current and surrounding areas.
"The future of our province will be defined by young people," Learning Minister Deb Higgins said. "We need to access every advantage our society and economy can provide to ensure that they achieve excellence in our education system. Investing in our schools will go a long way toward helping students reach their potential." The capital projects include: • The Sun West School Division will receive approximately $129,000 for a roof replacement at Eston Composite School; • The Holy Trinity Roman Catholic School Division will receive approximately $248,000 for air quality upgrades at St. Patrick School in Swift Current; • The D.S. Francophone School Division will receive approximately $500,000 to purchase École Secondaire Collège Mathieu in Gravelbourg, and approximately $25,000 for planning to integrate Beau Soleil Elementary with the college; • The Chinook School Division will receive approximately $75,000 to increase accessibility at Swift Current Comprehensive and Ashley Park School in Swift Current; • The Chinook School Division will receive approximately $1,000 to replace the boiler at École Oman School in Swift Current; • The Chinook School Division will receive approximately $162,000 for site drainage and parking at Gull Lake School; and • The Chinook School Division will receive approximately $77,000 to replace the roof over the gym at Val Marie School. These projects will be cost-shared with the school divisions listed above. The projects are part of the provincial government's investment of $7 million to improve the learning environment in 55 Saskatchewan schools. With these projects, the total commitment by government to K-12 capital projects this fiscal year is $22 million. "These projects demonstrate our continued commitment to working with school divisions to improve the learning environment in Saskatchewan schools," Higgins said.
