News Release - July 14, 2005 DUCK MOUNTAIN PROVINCIAL PARK CELEBRATES SASKATCHEWAN CENTENNIAL
New facilities and full-service campgrounds are open at Duck Mountain Provincial Park. Environment Minister David Forbes enjoyed a performance by Saskatchewan Express and dedicated the buildings during centennial celebrations at the park today.
A plaque now recognizes the province's $812,000 investment in the new program centre, administration building renovations, visitor centre addition, new playground equipment and full-service campsites at the Birch campground. "We are pleased and proud to dedicate these facilities to the people of Saskatchewan. These improvements will ensure park visitors will experience a safe and enjoyable park visit," Forbes said. "We can look back on Saskatchewan's past with pride and a sense of accomplishment and forward with confidence and optimism for what the future holds for our province and our people." The old program centre was replaced with a new combination amphitheatre/program centre. The addition to the visitor centre is now complete with displays, landscaping and parking. Through the four-year, $120 million Centenary Fund program, the parks program received $6.8 million to complete important capital projects for Saskatchewan's centennial. Saskatchewan's provincial parks celebrate the province's diverse natural and cultural heritage and are an important legacy for future generations. Each park highlights specific natural or historic features and offers a range of recreational and educational opportunities. Throughout the centennial year, Saskatchewan will continue to host a variety of special events and celebration initiatives.
