News Release - January 22, 2001 RESURFACING ON HIGHWAY 3 NEAR PRAIRIE RIVER
A tender has been awarded for resurfacing 8.3 km of Highway 3 near Prairie
River during the upcoming construction season. "Work for this $1.2 million resurfacing project is anticipated to begin in mid- May of 2001 and should be completed by mid-August," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "Completion of this job will require an estimated 43 full-time workers." The resurfacing project on Highway 3 will begin approximately 10 km west of the Prairie River and will continue 8.3 km west. Crushing and hauling for this project is taking place in the Prairie River region this winter and will be completed by March. G. W. Construction Ltd. of Buchanan, Saskatchewan was awarded this project. This resurfacing project was identified in the 2000/2001 Winter Tender Schedule for Saskatchewan highway work, worth an estimated $90 million. The Winter Tender Schedule ensures timely and efficient delivery of highway improvements this spring. "Highway 3 has seen a major increase in heavy truck traffic in the past few years, which is resulting in road deterioration," Sonntag said. "We are continuing to work hard to deliver highway improvement projects to our highway network throughout Saskatchewan." -30- For more information, contact: Rock Gorlick, Director Engineering Projects Highways and Transportation Saskatoon Phone: (306) 933-5225 (cell) (306) 227-8013 |
