"Recipients of the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal are the generous and committed, but often unacknowledged, leaders in our communities," Barnhart said. "This prestigious medal is a tangible expression of thanks from the people of Saskatchewan - we are truly fortunate to live in a province with such remarkable citizens."

The recipients are:
• Jack Ambler, Regina
• Dennis F. Bleier, Prince Albert
• Sergeant Keith W. Briant, Saskatoon
• Denis C. Chisholm, Regina
• Sidney A. Katzman, Saskatoon
• Marie Knutson, Eston
• Judy Lyons, Regina
• Thelma R. Poirier, Glentworth
• April E. Sampson, Weyburn
• Vaughn C. Schofield, Regina Beach

Recipients are selected by the Saskatchewan Honours Advisory Council from nominations submitted by the public. Including the 10 new recipients, the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal has been presented to 130 outstanding individuals since 1995. Saskatchewan has the highest rate of volunteerism in Canada.
