Ross Lynd has been named Team Saskatchewan's Chef de Mission for the 2005 Jeux du Canada Games, to be held in Regina in August 2005.
As Chef de Mission, Lynd is the primary liaison between the 2005 Host Society and Team Saskatchewan. He is also responsible for selecting and leading staff in the overall planning and co-ordination of all non-athletic aspects. "Having Saskatchewan host the 2005 Games is one of the highlights of our Centennial year. Regina will be in Canada's sports and cultural spotlight in August 2005," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Joan Beatty said. "Team Saskatchewan will be instrumental in helping ensure we host the best-ever and best managed Games to show spectators and athletes everywhere that the world needs a little more Saskatchewan." Lynd's involvement with sports spans more than 40 years as an administrator, coach, participant and volunteer. Lynd has participated in nine Saskatchewan Games, three Western Canada Summer Games and seven Canada Games. The 2005 Games will mark the fourth time Lynd has been named Chef de Mission for Team Saskatchewan. He was Chef for the 1993 Summer Games in Kamloops, the 2001 Summer Games in London and the 2003 Winter Games in Bathurst/Campbellton. "Managing all aspects of Team Saskatchewan is an exciting, challenging role, and I welcome the opportunity to help Team Saskatchewan, and all of Saskatchewan, shine during the Games in 2005," Lynd said. He has been employed in sport and recreation with the Government of Saskatchewan since 1982 and currently works for Saskatchewan Culture, Youth and Recreation. The Jeux du Canada Games program represents a federal/provincial/territorial partnership that results in biennial national multi-sport games alternating between summer and winter. In 2005, Team Saskatchewan will comprise 357 athletes and 68 coaches and managers. -30- For More Information, Contact:
