Highways and Transportation Minister Judy Bradley today announced a

paving project on Highway 49 from Hyas to Stenen and on Highway 9

north of Canora for a total of 16.8 km of road work.

"This $1.4 million project is expected to start in early July and is

planned for completion in mid-September, 1999," Bradley said. "An

estimated 49 jobs will be used to complete the project."

The Highway 49 paving and widening project will take place from the

junction of Highway 9 to 9.8 km east. Additional paving will be done

on Highway 9 from 7.9 km north of Canora to 14.8 km north for a total

distance of 16.8 km. The $1.4 million project cost includes

department-supplied materials and services.

G.W. Construction Ltd. was awarded the contract for the paving project

as the lowest of four bidders. To provide an acceptable new road

surface width on Highways 49 & 9, the existing road bed will be

widened prior to placing the new surface.

"Crews are working hard to improve and repair Saskatchewan roads and

highways," Bradley said. "The increased funding of $15 million this

year, demonstrates a commitment to preserving our investment in the

Saskatchewan highway system."
