News Release - August 7, 2003 SASKATCHEWAN PROMOTED AT RIDER GAME IN OTTAWA
The special public and private sector promotion of Saskatchewan at selected Roughrider away games continues this Thursday in Ottawa at the team's contest with the Renegades.
The Ottawa promotion includes a pre-game "Slice of Saskatchewan" rally with more than 300 University of Regina and Saskatchewan alumni and provincial expatriates, brochures to people in the stadium, promotions on Frank Clair Stadium's giant screen and a half-time, on-field Saskatchewan trivia contest for the Grey Cup in Regina this fall. Cabinet Minister Andrew Thomson is part of the delegation representing the province at the game. "Excitement over the Grey Cup and the record of our Riders means more national attention on our province," Thomson said. "This promotion builds on that, telling the rest of Canada that Saskatchewan also has a winning record as a great place to live, work and do business, and has a future wide-open with opportunity." The CFL promotion aims to raise awareness about Saskatchewan's economic and cultural achievements and tourist attractions. It is also designed to profile major sporting events taking place in Saskatchewan, like the 2003 Grey Cup, the 2004 Nokia Brier and the 2005 Canada Summer Games during Saskatchewan's centennial year. The promotion began at the Riders' first away game in Toronto and will continue at away games in Calgary and Vancouver in October, as well as at the September 6 home game. At each of these five games, there will be a major prize draw for a Gala Grey Cup Getaway – a trip for two to the Grey Cup in Regina. The government's partners in the Ottawa promotion include the Universities of Regina and Saskatchewan, City of Regina, Tourism Saskatchewan, Regina's Tumblers Western Pizza, Regina's Northgate Bakery, Casino Regina, Purolator Courier, Nokia Brier, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Grey Cup 2003 Organizing Committee and the CFL. These promotions are part of the province's Our Future is Wide Open campaign. -30- For More Information, Contact:
