NEW CHIEF COMMISSIONER NAMED FOR THE SASKATCHEWAN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION

Marilou McPhedran has been appointed Chief Commissioner of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission.

"Ms. McPhedran brings a wealth of understanding and experience to her role as chair of the Commission," Justice Minister Frank Quennell said. "Her experience as a lawyer and scholar with a particular interest in human rights will be beneficial to the work of the Human Rights Commission."

Ms. McPhedran is currently the visiting professor holding the Ariel F. Sallows Chair in Human Rights at the University of Saskatchewan College of Law.

"I extend my sincere thanks to Ms. Donna Scott, Q.C. for her commitment to human rights issues in Saskatchewan," Quennell said. "We greatly appreciate her efforts as Chief Commissioner of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission since 1996."

Other members of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission include John Hill, Deputy Chief Commissioner, Regina; Mike Bacon, Saskatoon; and Judy White, Saskatoon.
