MINISTER NORRIS PROMOTES SASKATCHEWAN TIES TO MIDDLE EAST

As part of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris' job recruitment mission in Toronto today, he will take the opportunity to meet with Amir Gissen, Consul General of Israel.

"I look forward to our discussion on ideas to further strengthen opportunities for research, innovation and education partnerships between Israel and Saskatchewan," Norris said.

University of Saskatchewan business students will travel to Israel and Jordan in May with support from AEEI. A total of 16 students will take part in a 10-day trip where they will visit new technology companies in Israel and examine potash-related businesses in Jordan.

"I am pleased that we are able to partner with the University of Saskatchewan in this international learning opportunity for students," Norris said. "This program supports the government's innovation agenda while providing the highest quality of education to undergraduate students."

The initiative by the University of Saskatchewan is the latest development in growing relations between Saskatchewan and countries in the Middle East. In 2010, Norris led a Saskatchewan mission to Israel and Jordan which focused on education, research and development partnerships.
