SASKATCHEWAN REVIEWING MINIMUM WAGE

Saskatchewan's Minimum Wage Board is reviewing the province's minimum wage.

Board chairperson John Yeo said the review is being undertaken because the provincial minimum wage has not been reviewed in almost two years. Saskatchewan's minimum wage has been set at $6.65 an hour since November 1st, 2002.

"It's not fair to force minimum wage earners to wait years for a review, and infrequent reviews are also more likely to result in large, 'catch up' increases that are not fair to employers," Yeo said. "Reviewing the minimum wage frequently helps to ensure it more accurately reflects the economic circumstances of the day."

Yeo said the Board hopes to make a recommendation to the Minister of Labour early next year. The Board consists of two business representatives, two labour representatives and the chairperson.

The Board is asking interested individuals and organizations to make written submissions by September 15th. It may also request meetings with individuals or organizations who do make written submissions. Submissions should be sent to:
