SASKWATER SUPPORTS STREET ART PROJECT AT PRAIRIE ARTS FESTIVAL

SaskWater is proud to support Saskatchewan's first Prairie Arts Festival, a unique celebration of the province's culture, diversity and artistic talents.

"The Prairie Arts Festival is an opportunity to recognize the art community and showcase Saskatchewan talent to the rest of Western Canada," Minister responsible for SaskWater Peter Prebble said. "The Festival's focus on Street Art – an art form largely untouched by other outlets – shows the event is on its way to becoming one of Canada's premiere performing and visual arts showcase."

From today until Sunday, July 3rd, Moose Jaw's historical downtown area will be transformed into a hub of creativity, featuring two outdoor performance stages, an 'Artist's Alley', children's activities, and the festival's signature event – the SaskWater Street Art project.

"Street Art is a growing phenomenon in North America and we are excited to be the first venue in Western Canada to feature this style of expression," Prairie Arts Festival Executive Director Dorothy Yakiwchuk said. "The SaskWater Street Art project provides people with a rare opportunity to watch an amazing work of art come to life on the street."

On Saturday, July 2nd, renowned local artists Grant McLaughlin and Kelly Grass will work with a group of select art students to create a Street Art mural on Moose Jaw's River Street. Because no toxic materials will be used during its creation, the environmentally friendly project is a temporary work of art and will remain on display only as long as nature permits.

Following the success of this year's event, the Prairie Arts Festival plans to increase the number of Street Art projects, ensuring its place as a one of a kind venue in Saskatchewan and Western Canada.

The Prairie Arts Festival is a not-for-profit community event organized by a volunteer Board of Directors. The event is open to the public, free of charge and will feature a variety of musical, visual and performance artists. For more information visit www.saskwater.com/festival.
