IMPROVING SASKATCHEWAN SCHOOLS

Saskatchewan students and communities will benefit from $3 million the provincial government is investing to upgrade schools throughout Saskatchewan next year. Today's announcement is the first funding release of block capital projects for the next fiscal year to improve the learning environment in 32 K-12 Saskatchewan schools. Additional capital projects will be announced throughout the 2005-06 fiscal year.

"The provincial government is committed to providing modern, well-equipped learning facilities for Saskatchewan students and teachers," Learning Minister Andrew Thomson said. "We are investing in schools, in students and in the future of Saskatchewan."

The projects announced today include improvements such as roof replacement and restoration, renovations, additions and relocatable classrooms. Funding for these projects will be cost shared with school divisions across the province.

"Schools today are more important than ever as vital centres of our communities," Thomson said. "We need to continue to upgrade learning facilities so they can continue to serve Saskatchewan communities well."
