OCTOBER 25 TO NOVEMBER 1 HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS WEEK IN SASKATCHEWAN

Health Care Providers Week recognizes the thousands of men and women who provide health care services across Saskatchewan.

Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris and Health Minister Don McMorris have proclaimed October 25 through November 1, Health Care Providers Week. Norris welcomed the health care providers in attendance at the legislature today.

"Day in and day out these amazing women and men help mend the bodies, heal the spirits and save the lives of our neighbours, friends and family," McMorris said. "Last week, Premier Wall shared a bold vision for health care in Saskatchewan. I'm proud to support this vision."

Advanced Education, Employment and Labour plays a key role in the Government of Saskatchewan's efforts to recruit, train and retain highly-qualified doctors, nurses and other health care professionals.

"We are also working with partners in health care to recruit Internationally Educated Health Care Professionals," Norris said. "As of October 10, there were 110 applications in progress through the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program."

At the end of the 2008-09 fiscal year, the health system in Saskatchewan employed more than 37,000 individuals. The province has 26 self-regulated health professions. They provided a wide range of services for that timeframe, including nearly 76,000 operating room surgeries, more than 80,000 CT scans, 4.2 million family physician visits, 540,000 immunizations and more than 47,000 mammograms.
