GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO THE MINIMUM WAGE BOARD

The government today announced changes to the province's Minimum Wage Board.

Five new members have been appointed to the Board, replacing five outgoing members. New Board members include: Wayne Watts (Saskatoon -Chairperson); Wayne Sannes (Moose Jaw); Margaret Hasein (Biggar); Judith Riddell (Carlyle); and Sandy Ewert (Martensville).

"I would like to thank the outgoing Board members John Yeo, Carol Cisecki, Clarke Curtis, Luisa Graybiel and Daniel Wirl for their valuable service to the people and the province of Saskatchewan," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "At the same time, I am pleased to welcome the new members to the Board and I look forward to receiving their recommendations regarding Saskatchewan's minimum wage."

The Minimum Wage Board's mandate is established under Section 15 of The Labour Standards Act and includes making recommendations to government on minimum wage levels, rates of callout pay and rates employers can charge for room and board.

Under The Labour Standards Act, the Board is required conduct a review of the minimum wage and report back to government before the end of 2009.
