News Release - March 21, 2011 NEW WEBSITE WILL HELP SASKATCHEWAN RESIDENTS KEEP ONE STEP AHEAD OF SPRING RUNOFFThe Government of Saskatchewan today launched www.saskflood.ca, a website designed to help Saskatchewan residents prepare for possible flooding and to provide timely updates on flood events as they occur in the province. The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority and the Ministry of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing, have developed and are maintaining the site. "As the March runoff forecast issued by Saskatchewan Watershed Authority illustrates, areas of the province are certain to experience spring flooding this year," Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Watershed Authority Dustin Duncan said. "The government of Saskatchewan is committed to providing our citizens with vital, up-to-date, and readily accessible information to help ensure their safety and mitigate flood damage to homes and other property." "Just as we have made improvements to the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program, we have also improved the way Saskatchewan citizens receive information about flooding so they can make their own preparations," Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert said. The website contains the most recent runoff advisories and forecasts; detailed maps and charts; flood prevention tips; details on the Flood Damage Mitigation Program and Provincial Disaster Assistance Program; emergency events and procedures; important contact information and more. Information will be added to www.saskflood.ca as it becomes available and updates will be made to the site as needed. -30- For more information, contact:
