SASKATCHEWAN VOLUNTEER MEDAL RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED

Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield announced today the names of eight recipients of the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal.  The Medal recognizes outstanding volunteer service or exceptional community involvement.

“It is a true honour to present the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal to such deserving individuals,” Solomon Schofield said.  “The recipients have made extraordinary contributions to our province, and represent the heart and soul of Saskatchewan.”

The 2012 recipients are:

  • Phyllis Cameron, Arcola
  • Master Corporal (Ret’d) Leslie Good, C.D., Moose Jaw 
  • Colonel (Ret’d) Charles Keple, C.D., Regina
  • Namarta Kochar, Saskatoon 
  • Dr. Jim Leskun, Regina
  • André Moquin, Gravelbourg
  • Dennis Sanderson, La Ronge
  • Joan Wilson, Saltcoats

The recipients will receive their medals this spring at Government House in Regina.

Recipients are selected by the Saskatchewan Honours Advisory Council from nominations submitted by the public.  Including the eight new recipients, the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal has been presented to 156 outstanding individuals since 1995.  Saskatchewan continues to have one of the highest rates of volunteerism in Canada.
