News Release - March 14, 2013 2012 GED® ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD RECIPIENT ANNOUNCEDThe Ministry of the Economy today announced Mr. Delmar Johnson is the recipient of the 2012 GED® Academic Achievement Award for the province of Saskatchewan. The award was presented at a ceremony held during the Saskatchewan Adult Basic Education Association (SABEA) annual conference in Saskatoon. “Saskatchewan’s thriving economy continues to offer valuable opportunities for those seeking to expand their career skills,” Economy Minister Bill Boyd said. “GED® alumni contribute to every sector of the workforce and the Government of Saskatchewan understands the importance of obtaining this certification. It provides a means to pursue the skills development necessary to participate in the province’s work force and build a rewarding life and career. We congratulate Mr. Johnson on his outstanding personal achievement.” This is the fourth year the award of $350 has been given. The award recognizes the individual who obtained the highest score on their first attempt writing the GED® tests in Saskatchewan during the previous calendar year. The recipient must have completed a GED® preparation course from a post-secondary institution that receives core funding from the Ministry of the Economy. Mr. Johnson achieved a score of 3,470 out of a total of 4,000 points on all five tests in March of 2012. GED® provides adults with the opportunity to earn a high school completion credential, the GED® Grade 12 Equivalency Diploma. Candidates must complete a set of five tests covering math, science, reading, writing and social studies. The five GED® tests, which last more than seven hours over two days, also measure communication, information processing, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Since 1970, more than 70,000 Saskatchewan adults have earned their GED® Grade 12 Equivalency Diploma. -30- For more information, contact: Deb Young |
