SASKATCHEWAN VOLUNTEER MEDAL RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED

Lieutenant Governor Dr. Gordon L. Barnhart announced today the names of nine recipients of the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. The medal recognizes outstanding volunteer service or exceptional community involvement.

"Saskatchewan volunteers come from all walks of life, from all age groups, and from every community in our province," Barnhart said. "The nine extraordinary individuals who will be honoured with our provincial volunteer award this year are shining examples of the generosity and commitment that has made Saskatchewan such an amazing place to call home; I am deeply grateful to each of them for their outstanding contributions."

The 2010 recipients are:

  • Lexie Culham, Cabri
  • David Delday, Kindersley
  • Maurice Filson, Regina
  • Krishan Kapila, Regina
  • Emil Leibel, Balgonie
  • Hellegards MacFarlane, Kamsack
  • Jean Mahoney, Regina
  • Betty Lou Palko, Hudson Bay
  • Albin Zubot, Burstall

The recipients will receive their awards on April 19, at Government House in Regina. Recipients are selected by the Saskatchewan Honours Advisory Council from nominations submitted by the public. Including the nine new recipients, the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal has been presented to 139 outstanding individuals since 1995. Saskatchewan has the highest rate of volunteerism in Canada.
