IMPROVING HIGHWAY 2 NEAR LIBERTY

A tender has been awarded for resurfacing 11.19 km of Highway 2 near Liberty.

"Roadwork on this project is expected to begin in early June, and and should be completed in early July," Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "Thirty-one full-time workers will be employed on this $800,000 project."

Resurfacing will take place in two segments, from 12.98 km to 18.67 km North of Liberty, and from 21.91 km to 27.41 North of Liberty. In addition to the resurfacing, the section of the highway from 12.98 km to 29.26 km north of Liberty will receive a double seal coat. Anderson Rental and Paving Ltd. of Saskatoon was awarded the contract.

Work on gravel crushing and stockpiling in preparation for construction has been completed.

"Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation is committed to building better highways in Saskatchewan," Wartman said. "The project scheduled for the Liberty area will help improve Highway 2, enhancing a key transportation corridor in south-central Saskatchewan, and supporting regional economic and social development."

The government has committed $293 million to building better highways in 2002-2003. More than 700 km of highways will be reconstructed and paved this year.
