News Release - December 12, 2008 OFFICIAL OPPOSITION'S 2008 CHRISTMAS MESSAGEThe holiday season of Christmas and New Years is here once again and as we go about making our preparations we are reminded of the spirit of the season, the spirit of peace and good will. The Christmas season is a time of joy and sharing, a time to gather with friends and family, a time to enjoy together the abundance and blessings of living in our province and nation. But the times are uncertain. Some of our young people continue to serve in fields of conflict. Here at home the gap between rich and poor continues to grow. Within our own homes and families there may be conflict and hurt or sorrow. The Christmas season, with its spirit of peace and goodwill is a reminder of who we, as human beings may be, a reminder of the human spirit at its best. Who among us doesn't wish for peace and goodwill for ourselves and our families and our communities? Who among us doesn't wish the best for our province and nation and ultimately our world? And what we wish for ourselves we desire for all. Two thousand years ago Angels sang a hymn of "peace and good will" heralding the birth of a child. It is our challenge to take that message into our hearts and make it so for our children, our neighbours, our communities and our world. In this holiday season, Betty and I and many of us will treasure our time with family and our family traditions, sharing our own faith traditions, remembering with love those whose chairs will be empty this Christmas, and sharing in the abundance and freedom that we are given in Saskatchewan. May we take from this Christmas season a renewed commitment to sharing the peace and good will of which the angels once sang at the birth of a Child with all children of all nations. Betty and I extend to you and yours, a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. -30- For more information, contact: Lee Schultz |
